SWISS Laundry - our story 

Our name "Swiss" is derived initially from the Swiss finish given to table linen, popular at this time, but over the years we have built up a strong recognisable brand based on all things "Swiss". Reliability, quality, efficiency and a clean freshness are all features that one associates with Switzerland and hence we use the Swiss flag as our logo.

The Turvill family has controlled the Swiss laundry for over 80 years, with Guy Turvill (Chairman) and Richard Turvill, the current Managing Director being the third generation of his family in the post. The business continues to be run on "old fashioned" family values with a real focus on detail and customer service.

The company continues to provide specialist laundry, linen hire and dry cleaning services. Through a combination of investment in the latest energy efficient technology, using the best available solvents and chemicals and by employing skilled employees, we like to think we provide an unrivalled level of performance and service

In 2004, the Swiss Laundry acquired Camplings Linen (an Independent Laundry based in Great Yarmouth) as part of the Company's plans for growth. This sister company still operates from the same site in Great Yarmouth and provides the same quality Commercial Linen & Laundry services to Customers throughout Norfolk & Suffolk.

Winners at the Center Parcs’ Supplier Awards

Congratulations to our sister business, Camplings Linen, which has just been recognised in the 2018 Center Parcs Supplier Awards, winning the top title in two categories.

On Tuesday 25th September, we were honoured to attend Center Parcs’ eighth annual Supplier Awards, hosted on a beautiful sunny day at Elveden Forest.  Recognising and celebrating the best of more than 1,800 suppliers from throughout the UK, we were delighted to be named the winning supplier the categories of:

  • Delivering Excellent Service – Sustainability Initiative
  • Delivering Excellent Service – Local Supplier Elveden Forest

This year’s Center Parcs Supplier Awards were the biggest yet, with 500 nominations submitted across 13 categories; a 22% increase on last year’s awards.

Richard Turvill, our managing director comments; “Swiss Camplings has provided an excellent laundry service to Center Parcs Elveden Forest since it first opened in 1989. And we’re absolutely delighted that our first-class service, plus our commitment to reducing the impact on the environment has received this fantastic customer recognition. To receive the national award for our sustainability efforts is particularly pleasing. It shows that what we’re doing is having real results for Center Parcs, ensuring its environmental impact is kept to a minimum."

These award wins arrive just two years after the launch of Swiss Camplings’ £5 million state-of-the-art commercial laundry in Great Yarmouth.  Investing in the latest laundry technology, kit and chemical processes, Swiss Camplings is well positioned to deliver a sustainable, energy efficient service for Center Parcs and all its customers. 

Richard adds; “As a commercial laundry, we are inherently big consumers of water and energy; but since launching the new Great Yarmouth site in 2016, we have radically reduced our impact on the environment. Our green initiatives include re-using and recycling water, using ‘cool chemistry’ to wash at lower temperatures and scrutinising operational data to ensure we’re as sustainable and efficient as possible. But we constantly look for other ways to improve.”

Environment and social responsibilities statement

The Swiss Laundry Ltd  (& Camplings in Yarmouth, the sister Company) recognise the responsibilities and social duties it has to look after the environment, its staff, customers, neighbours and community.

We are committed to policies that minimise the adverse impact of our activities and aim to deliver on this promise in all parts of our operations. To ensure the effective implementation of this policy, we have given clear responsibilities and accountabilities to our executive directors against which they are measured.

What we're doing and what we've done?

We believe actions speak louder than words and so here is a summary of what we’ve done.

  • Investment
    • Laundries are heavy users of energy to heat water and iron linen. Modern equipment is energy efficient and we are committed to continue investing.
    • 80% of machinery is less than 5 years old
    • We aim to replace our vehicles every 5 years and have been purchasing euro 6 classification ahead of the legal requirements.
    • We have invested over £5m in our new Laundry facility in Gt. Yarmouth and have plans for further investment for our Cambridge operation
    • We maintain our buildings and surroundings with our own permanent staff
    • Our board is prepared to make long term decisions and will continue to consider the wider effect of business decisions
  • Recycle/re-use/Reduce

    • Our business is all about restoring linen to a reusable quality. It is our core activity and a philosophy we run throughout the organisation
    • Our washing machines recycle water and through heat recovery systems, only cold water leaves our site
    • Our driers are designed to finish at the optimum moisture content level
    • Our packaging is constantly under review and excess is retained and re-cycled
    • We have halved our equivalent water consumption through our investment in our new plant
    • Our ambition is to have zero waste to groundfill
  • Energy reduction

    • We re-use heat energy and circulate exhaust energy back into our process
    • Our investment in a new facility in 2016 means we use 1/3 less energy per kilo of laundry washed
    • We carefully plan our distribution and monitor vehicle fuel economy
    • We promote the concept of 'Linen Miles' and focus on Customers within 1 hour from our sites
    • We have signed up to an energy monitoring scheme whereby we are judged on a programme of continuous improvement against a base year of 2008
  • Staff & Charitable activities

    • We are proud of the energy and enthusiasm our staff put into raising money for good causes
    • We support their activities and generally match fund their success from our profits
    • We share our financial success with our staff
    • Many of our Staff chose to stay with us - some for over 40 years
    • We try and develop our promote our staff from within
    • We select annually a charity to support

We genuinely care, and strive to deliver the highest possible customer service to you, and the best quality clean & finish for your items. Our experienced Customer service team will happily talk to you about the options for cleaning your garments.

Loyalty Scheme & Feedback

We genuinely value our Customers and the feedback they give us. It was through Customer Feedback that we introduced our Loyalty Scheme, designed to suit the Customers we serve.

ASK about our loyalty scheme. No need to present or hold another loyalty card, just complete a short form for to register and we keep a track of your loyalty points on our system. The discounts will be applied automatically as thresholds are met and transactions are processed.
